The title is slightly misleading as I actually believe that every person should... and here's my story why.

I grew up as a (mostly) innocent kid from a farming community in rural Wisconsin. I never did drugs or even tasted alcohol until I attended college, besides a few sips from my father's glass of wine when I pretended to be an adult. In my mind, anybody who did marijuana or, god forbid, anything stronger, must be a hooligan that is throwing their life away. To me, drugs were evil and that was that.

In college, I expanded my view of the world. I went from 99% white & conservative Ashton, Wisconsin (a wonderful town, by the way) to living in a tiny dorm-room with roommates including an Indian guy and a gay guy. I liked what I learned from their perspectives and began to travel. I went to Africa and lived in the Samburu Bush for three months. There, I sacrificed and drank the blood of a goat, but that is a story for another time. I was proud of my openness to new experiences and yet I refused to ever try drugs. In college, people would offer me pot and I would tell them I couldn't because I might get into politics someday and wanted to be able to say "No" when asked if I dabbled.
