Learn more biology

As far as general interests go, my scope is relatively large. But there's one domain I haven't been paying enough attention to: biology.

Insofar as great artists steal, I subscribe very much to concept-theft across domains. Some people study history and find patterns that rhyme, I admire them for willing to dig deep.

Biology though is the slimy business of applied chemistry. The resulting organisms are not subjects I naturally gravitate to. But as a student of systems and ecosystems, biology is a masterclass of how systems are built.

It's a cheatsheet of system-designs left over by gods. The implications are directly applicable to software engineering, macro investing and crypto analysis.

The field of software is nascent enough that the mental models available work on a low level like chemistry. With enough well made abstractions it's going to resemble biology.

If you run into architectural design challenges, there's a good chance that a design-cheat can be found in nature already.

The same applies to crypto ecosystems. Any successful emergent product, protocol or community may very well resemble a model displayed in nature. Spotting opportunities way ahead of time is made possible if you know quality to look for.

I'm not exactly sure how to go about it though. I just know NatGeo and Discovery channels are not it. The best clue I have is to start small on YouTube and count on it to draw me into the rabbit hole.
