Learning to unlearn
This is part of What Interest Me This Week.
Wait long enough and your virtues would turn into sins.
There an industrial complex out there teaching you how to learn well. But the next frontier may be the skill to unlearn.
I'm not even sure such thing is a skill. Knowing to unlearn is an anti-skill. It's like trying to figure out how to sleep. It can't be approached the same you learn to play guitar.
My major motivation is this: suppose you've found out the thing that is no longer serving you and you now need to shake it (congratulations, not an easy feat), how do you go about it?
Is such a project the same thing as shaking a habit?
If it's not possible at all, would the alternative be integrating the Jungian shadow?
What are the classic stories that narrate such character changes? Do they necessarily resemble a Hero's Journey?
