Culture is practiced by the collective. Rituals are practiced by individuals.

Collective culture outdates increasingly often but shifts slow. Rituals adapt quick.

Rituals cater to individual needs. Culture depriotize individual needs to build collective strength.

A bottom up scenario happens when rituals leak into culture en masse. A top down scenario happens when culture leaks into individual rituals because the collective demands it.

Rituals are easier to get right because it's easy to change. Culture gets it wrong often, even if it started off on the right foot.

Both make use of stories for coercion. Stories used for culture are easier to debunk. Stories used for rituals are stories you tell yourself about yourself, dissecting them takes enormous wisdom.
