Getting into VR
It started with me seeing Playstation VR 2 demos. The new specs looked promising, launch date about next year, price unknown. Meantime I could get a PS5 and simply play Street Fighter with it until VR 2 launches.
There are certain categories of knowledge I willfully stay ignorant to. This is one of them.
Turned out PS5 is precious commodity now, prices are pushed up by market scalpers. I study enough macro economic outlook to know that's not going to improve in the coming one year.
Though despite being marked up the price is still moderately acceptable. Until I found out you gotta pay Sony money every month just so you can play Street Fighter online. That was the last straw.
I had to reevaluate what I'm trying to achieve here. The objective isn't to play conventional games or even as a 3D desktop extension. Those are cool but they are bonuses.
The real objective is for me to immerse in survival horror games. The scarier the better. Apparently the titles available is rich enough that it's worth trying.
With that in mind, the next obvious option is the Oculus Quest 2. Being a standalone device with ready made titles, that's an easy decision. Conventional games will have to wait.
I just had one picked up today. Now the Quest 2 is being setup, there's a complication I doubt anyone can do anything about: lazy eye.
Having put it on, it's proven that at a close distance my two eyes are determined not to work together, resulting in double images.
If I have to put a positive spin on this, then this is the opportunity to use VR as a therapy for double-vision.
The next few weeks will be interesting.
